Crossing Border festival
Nieuwe Kerk, Den
Haag (NL), 7 October 1999

Everybody missed the band. At least that's what a drunken lady shouted or should I say slurred
at the beginning of D.E.E.'s set. She didn't speak on my behalf though.
The whole affair started rather funny and nervous. Funny because the announcer had - he admitted that - no idea who he was announcing and mispronounced almost everything
he said. Nervous because D.E.E. didn't seem to feel at ease. He was playing
in a church from the 1600's, right under the pulpit. That shouldn't have
unsettled him. Perhaps that large inflatable alien over his head did ;-).
Anyway he was very nervous and there were some technical problems too.
That didn't help. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th song "Golden Rope" when
it really started. That was the first truly great moment. And from then
on a lot of those moments kept on coming. Halfway through the set Jean-Yves
climbed on stage too, to add some brushes to the last 4 songs. All in all
it was a great show. But where does he get those hats? ;-) The ones 60 year old Bavarians wear.
