Woven Hand

Woven Hand in Dutch Harlem. The atmosphere in the venue was relaxed and "gezellig", in the tidy city were people are supposed to speak the Queen's Dutch best. The show wasn't as tidy though. There were quite a few technical hitches. Phyllis Ann was abandoned, but not in the woods. The song was halted on the second attempt when David Eugene Edwards didn't seem to be interested anymore in solving the technical difficulties he was facing. Keys got stuck. Amps malfunctioned. Or where they just not handled properly? ;-)

What was obvious from the start, was the power that has been added to the Woven Hand sound by Ordy Garrison on drums. The sometimes thin sound of the album was transformed into something big and beefy. A reverse audio-Weightwatchers, so to speak. Ordy developed his skills during the many years that he played with Slim Cessna's Auto Club. That's why he can hit a drum and shake a blue egg simultaniously. :-)

Paul Fonfara's cello enriched the sound as well. He added an extra colour, especially when he aggressively attacked his instrument with his bow, instead of gently stroking it. One small remark though, when buying a shirt, note the neck size. :->

Daniel McMahon played his usual water-carrier role. Trying to guide David through technical problems and the set. As an inconspicuous, but very useful, quiet musical tower of strength.

David, on the other hand, seemed chaotic and restless. Perhaps because the set hasn't quite jelled yet, or that is why the set hasn't quite jelled yet.
