What some have been dreading and/or predicing has happened. 16 Horsepower has split. Here's a statement from the band:
Dear All,
It is with some regrets but also with confidence that we, 16 Horsepower,
have decided to end our journey as a band. We have shared some
unforgettable moments and hope to have given you all we could.
An accumulation of differences, mostly political and spiritual,
separates us today and prevents us from honestly going any further.
We will remain active as Lilium and Woven Hand.
We stay available to you and welcome your comments and inquiries through
our record labels or via E-mail at 16horsepower@16horsepower.net
Sincerely,
16HP

Additional tourdates have been confirmed for Woven Hand feat. David Eugene Edwards. Besides playing familiar places like Tilburg (NL), Den Haag (NL), London (UK), Bonn (D) and the Cornerstone Festival (USA), Edwards will perform at the Kulturfabrik in the "Capital of the iron and steel industry, the second largest city of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and the chief town of the canton bearing its name." Yes, that is Esch-sur-Alzette. "A cosmopolitan town that boasts an eventful past and that represents a considerable attraction for its inhabitants as well as for its visitors and tourists. Located in the southern area of the country close to the French border, Esch-sur-Alzette houses a cosmopolitan population of about 27,000, nearly 43% of which are foreigners."

"Örömmel tapasztaljuk, hogy évro"l évre egyre több külföldi zenekar küldi el jelentkezését hozzánk azzal a céllal, hogy a Sziget Fesztiválon szeretnének fellépni." Aha, and so does David Eugene Edwards. He will return to the city of Budapest. This time for a Woven Hand show. On August 15th he will take the stage at the Sziget Festival 2005, Hungary.

The 16HP double DVD is out of the plant and can be ordered from Glitterhouse Records.

On disc 1: Haw, Black Soul Choir, Clogger, Splinters and Hutterite Mile videos. Live footage of Horse Head Fiddle, Flutter and Heart And Soul. Plus a documentary about a typical day of life on the road (according to Glitterhouse: 'crawling out of the bus sleepy, soundchecking, hanging round backstage waiting for the show.' Well, that doesn't sound very exciting ;-) . The day being 23 March 2001 when 16 Horsepower played the Brussels Ancienne Belgique. TV-station CanalPlus followed the band that day and here are some frames from the broadcast. Also on disc 1 are surround-mixes (in Dolby Digital or DTS Surround) of Clogger, Splinters, Poor Mouth, Silver Saddle, Hutterite Mile, Blessed Persistence and 24 Hours.

Disc 2 offers a 16-minute interview with David Eugene Edwards and Jean-Yves Tola. A 25-minute meeting with a young Edwards in a Denver library, where he also plays Wayfaring Stranger and Nobody 'Cept You on banjo. Furthermore there's a 20-minute history "16 Horsepower 1993-2003". Followed by a 25-minute film titled "Coulisses" showing the band on tour in Europe about life on the bus, including an obligatory stop at a gas station, and backstage.

02-03-2005:
On May 9th, Woven Hand plays at the Koninklijk Circus/Cirque Royal in bilingual Brussels. David Eugene Edwards previously played this venue/festival in 2002 with 16 Horsepower, and here's a flashback.
26-02-2005:
Last week the Denver Gentlemen played there and last night Munly. On Saturday March 5th Slim Cessna's Autoclub will play there and so will Woven Hand on Friday March 25th. We're talking about Bender's Tavern on E. 13th Ave in Denver. Tickets for the Woven Hand show are available in advance from Twist & Shout, Across The Trax and Bender's Tavern.
18-02-2005:
Early spring, David Eugene Edwards will visit Belgium for some Woven Hand shows. The first one confirmed is on April 30th at the "Dranouter aan Zee" Festival. You'll probably recognize the name Dranouter from the August folk festival. The organization aspires to move the tents and the same 'folk' atmosphere to the beach alongside the Esplanade (promenade) at De Panne (B). Therefore they have invited among others Woven Hand (starts at 18:00), Flip Kowlier and Ray Davies.
17-02-2005:
16 Horsepower has asked us to let you know that:
"The views and opinions of David Edwards, Pascal Humbert and Jean-Yves
Tola as individuals are not necessarily the ones of 16 Horsepower." (signed) - 16 Horsepower -
The 16hp DVD will finally come out of the plant by late February and
should be in the stores across Europa on March 14th.
04-01-2005:
"Harry Smith: music film art life" is the name of a four-day-festival which is held in Amsterdam in February, starting on the 24th. Harry Smith is the American collector, musicologist, moviemaker and artist whose name is inextricably linked with the Anthology of American Folk Music. Nearly all of Smith's movies will be screened at the Balie on Leidseplein. On Saturday 26 February the festival moves almost next-door to the Paradiso. There the Handsome Family will play a special "Anthology-set". Frisian singer-songwriter Meindert Talma will perform American "originals" in Dutch and David Eugene Edwards is the third act that evening. Besides the musical acts, Rani Singh, from the Harry Smith archives, will hold a presentation about Smith's life and work. Dutch writer and music-journalist Roel Bentz van den Berg will host the evening.
Volume 4 of the Pet Series (the fish) contains a Bob Ferbrache remix of "Sorry" from Lilium's "Short Stories" album. The compilation, which also features among others Spinvis, Thomas Denver Johnsson and ME (at the close of every day's Minco Eggersman), is released on Volkoren.
