09-12-2003:

  • On 23 January 2004 Woven Hand plays at the aptly named Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado. Tickets for this 21+ show are already on sale. The Boulder gig is the traditional hometown (or thereabouts) show before departing for Europa. England and Scotland to be more precise, where Woven Hand will accompany 5 Blush performances by Ultima Vez.

As reported in September, there is a possibility that Woven Hand will also play live with Ultima Vez in May (2 shows at the L'Opéra de Rouen in Rouen, France) and December 2004 (8 shows at the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels, Belgium).

  • 05-12-2003:
  • Jim White, maker of the albums Wrong-Eyed Jesus and No Such Place, is the tourguide in the movie Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus. An 85-minute documentary by Andrew Douglas, structured like a road movie.

In La Dolce Vita a statue of Christ is transported over Rome hanging from a helicopter. In Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus sculpture of Jesus sticks out of the trunk of Jim White's battered old car as he is searching for the soul of the American South where Jesus is never far away.

And neither is music. Music from acts like The Handsome Family, Johnny Dowd, (former New York Doll?) David Johansen and 16 Horsepower form the intermezzi between Jim White's conversations with the local population.

The footage of 16 Horsepower (the band playing acoustic versions of Straw Foot and Clogger in an old bible revival tent) did not make the final cut of the movie that is being shown on the big screen. But it will probably be on the DVD release, which they are working on at this moment. David Eugene Edwards is included in the theatrical release playing solo versions of Wayfaring Stranger and Phyllis Ann. To see the trailer and for more info go to the movie site.

We'll come back on this topic when there is more news to report. For those in The Netherlands that missed the screenings at the Amsterdam IDFA festival. On 26 February 2004 the movie will be shown again as part of the Docuzone programme. Or just keep an eye on your local film-festival calendar.

  • 03-12-2003:
  • On Friday 5 december, St. Nicholas' Eve, Jay Munly will play at the Hi-Dive, a newly opened venue on South Broadway in Denver. The next day, Woven Hand, plus unnamed guests will play at the same venue. Tickets for the 6 December 9 PM show are $10,-.
  • Honouring a semi-long tradition, again this year Slim Cessna's Auto Club will be closing the year in Denver with two shows (Jay Munly as opening act):

  • 14-11-2003:
  • In November of last year we reported (20/11/03) that Pascal Humbert had just finished a project, a documentary interwoven with his music. Here is some old and some new info about that project.

The project is called Cassa da Vita - A Box of Life - and involves publishing boxed sets of elderly people's life stories. The one that Pascal has worked on is a boxed set for Susan Hortense Brant called "A Modern Troubadour". There's a CD in it with the title "At That Time" with music composed, recorded and produced by Lilium at the Dust Bowl Factory, Colorado, 2002 and also S.H. Brant talking about her life and reciting some of her poetry. She had been writing poetry all her life but never published anything. Some of the music is from "Transmission of All the Good-Byes", but most of it is unreleased material. Here is a picture of the CD-cover (clearer scan to follow):

  • Earlier this month we mentioned that Volkoren, who had just released Olden as a double-LP, would release more 16hp material on vinyl. We can now add that in 2004 Volkoren will release Folklore and Hoarse on 33RPM worldwide. Plans to release Woven Hand on 12" vinyl are still only plans.
In the spring of 2004 Volkoren will release a DVD chronicling At The Close Of Every Day's tour with 16 Horsepower, including footage shot at the Brussels Ancienne Belgique on 12 November. Whether the footage of David Eugene Edwards joining ATCOED on stage for one song ('September Grass') will feature on the DVD depends on the cutter.
  • Back to Woven Hand. David Eugene Edwards is working on a new Woven Hand album. Glitterhouse expects it to be finished in early January 2004. No proper release date has been scheduled yet, but it might be released in early April 2004.

  • 02-11-2003:
