  • Dutch-Danish act At The Close Of Everyday will be the opening act on the imminent 16 Horsepower tour, with the exception of the Crossing Border festival. Last Wednesday, 24 September, singer-drummer Minco Eggersman was interviewed over the phone by VPRO's 3voor12 Radio (NL) about their new record and the forthcoming tour with 16 Horsepower. You can listen to the interview on the 3voor12's site or read here what was said about the tour.

Minco Eggersman:"The new release ties in with the impending tour with 16 Horsepower. It's fantastic. We'll be touring from the end of October till nearly the end of November. London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Oslo, Stockholm, Vienna, Zurich. You name it, we'll be playing there. We are very grateful for this opportunity. It is very difficult to become the support-act of such a big band. And we're especially grateful because they asked us.

They were already familiar with our music. We had done four shows with Woven Hand and David Eugene Edwards had good words to say about us. During the Woven Hand tour they already knew 16 Horsepower would be touring later so I asked who the support-act would be. They didn't have any yet. I know David is very critical. He doesn't like many bands. In fact he doesn't like any bands. That's why I was curious to know which band they would select. Later we had contact via email about the tour and I said that we would very much like to do the tour. Soon after I got an email saying we had been chosen to do the whole tour.

16 Horsepower will fly into London. There their nightliner bus will be waiting. We are trying to arrange a big camper or a small nightliner. We're only a party of six. Three band members plus three people for the sound, merchandising and the like. And we'll be following 16 Horsepower.

It's a great experience and it can be very beneficial to our records. By then our album should be available in all the countries we play, except Denmark and Sweden. But we have some distributors there. It's great to go to other countries when you records are available there."

At The Close Of Everyday has been asked by the VPRO to keep a diary during the tour for 3voor12 Radio.

  • 24-09-2003:
  • On 9/11, 2000, before the start of the US leg of the Secret South tour, 16 Horsepower played in Denver's Twist and Shout record store. They will return to that retail outlet for another in-store appearance on 27 October, a day before their gig at Denver's Gothic Theatre. Proceedings at Twist and Shout start at 18.30 local time.
  • Ultima Vez has announced more Blush shows for 2004. And some of those shows might possibly perhaps conceivably perchance be accompanied by Woven Hand live, maybe. From that you wording you will undoubtedly have gathered that the following is to be taken with more than the usual reserve.

The questionable dates in question are:

    • 07-02-04: Sadler's Wells Theatre, London (UK)
    • 08-02-04: Sadler's Wells Theatre, London (UK)
    • 11-02-04: Hall for Cornwall, Truro (UK)
    • 17-02-04: Theatre Royal, Glasgow (UK)
    • 18-02-04: Theatre Royal, Glasgow (UK)
    • 11-05-04: L'Opéra de Rouen, Rouen (FR)
    • 12-05-04: L'Opéra de Rouen, Rouen (FR)
    • 07-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 09-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 10-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 11-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 14-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 16-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 17-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)
    • 18-12-04: Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg, Brussels (B)

Until last week David Eugene Edwards reportedly was sure about doing these dates, but at the moment he is said to be hesitating. Ultima Vez can't indicate when they can give a decisive answer whether Woven Hand will join Ultima Vez on these (or any) Blush dates. When they can, we will inform you. For a complete list of Blush shows please visit the Ultima Vez site.

For people who want to see Blush, the Saddler's Wells site warns that "this production contains scenes which some may find offensive and is not suitable for children." And frogs.

  • On 9/11, 1996, 16 Horsepower played at the Dr. Anton Philipszaal. You can still listen online to a section of that show which was broadcast on VPRO's Night Train radio show. In 1998, they played at the Prins Willem-Alexander hall of the Congresgebouw. In 1999, David Eugene Edwards played a(n almost) solo show at the Nieuwe Kerk. All three venues are in Den Haag, The Netherlands, and the shows were part of the Crossing Border festival.

In 2001, David Eugene Edwards returned to the festival with Woven Hand for Woven Hand's first two European shows. Crossing Border had by then moved to Amsterdam's Leidseplein (the Stadsschouwburg being one of the venues) and a sister festival had been organized in Brussels (at the Ancienne Belgique).

That is 16 Horsepower's/Woven Hand's Crossing Border history. It was rumoured that 16 Horsepower was to play at this year's festival on 14 November. But later a Groningen show was announced for that day. Now the grapevine does seem to have contained a lot of truth.

The festival has announced a provisional programme. The definitive programme will be announced mid-October, about a month before the festival takes place. And according to the announcement 16 Horsepower will play at the Koninklijke Schouwburg in Den Haag (the festival has moved back) on 14 November. Other artists (musicians and authors) at the Royal Theatre that night include Pere Ubu's David Thomas, Solex, Ron Sexsmith, Tom McRea, Joost Zwagerman, Thomas Roosenboom, the Master Musicians of Jajouka and Michael Madsen. Mr. Blonde?

This show hasn't yet been confirmed "officially", but as the Groningen Stadsschouwburg, were 16hp are still officially scheduled to play on 14 November, is completely ignorant of a 16hp show in their theatre on that day, the Crossing Border show seems to be very likely to go ahead.
