Woven Hand - Mosaic review
Fourth solo album from 16 Horsepower leader Stripped of 16 Horsepower's ferocious attack, David Eugene Edwards is no less potent. The less-is-more approach merely serves to heighten the impact of his intensely devotional songs. An evangelical Christian, the religious fire of "Full Armour” and "Winter Shaker” is complemented by relentless drum tattoos, and a voice to make grown men wither, but there's delicacy, too. "Whistling Girl" and "Deerskin Doll" are elegantly structured via stings and piano, while "Bible And Bird" could be a countrified "Norwegian Wood". Imagine Joy Division baptised in the Deep South. 4 stars (out of 5) |
