Flex, Vienna (A), 5 September 2002
My hometown is half-way between Vienna and Budapest. So it's all the same for me, either to go to one place or the other. However, I'd appreciate 16hp playing again in Hungary very much! But this time we had to head for Vienna. The venue, Flex where the concert took place is on the bank of the Danube canal.Very cool place and perfect for a good show. The opening act (I forgot the name, what a shame) was playing dark, depressing but enjoyable music. Then, we had to wait for a while for our favourite band, but at last they appeared on stage. They played the same songs as I could read on the previous setlists, so no need to repeat it. David seemed as if he'd just walked out of a barber with a decent and fresh haircut. And with some brandnew tattoos (at least new for me) on the left arm: a blue star , with a cross inside it and some strange signs on the lower arm.

If I had to highlight the most fascinating parts, it would be a hard task for me. Still, the outstanding songs for me were Outlaw song, Lonely and Forsaken, Sinnerman and the very shocking Splinters. Simply, there are no words for it! During For Heaven's Sake, David was apparently not present! He could be somewhere at the "other side". The encore were those 3+1 song. As if it could intensify my feelings even more. But they couldn't! Those, who feel the same as me, while being at a 16hp concert, all know what I mean. I've read each previous review so that I could observe those familiar actions during the show, like playing the guitar with a bow, hitting the head with the bow, smiling, speaking more etc ... ![]() The Austrian audience was great. I could recognize some familiar faces (it's the 3rd time I was in Vienna for a 16hp show). However, there were some disturbing moments, as well. We were standing in the first rows and at the beginning two red-and-black haired girl were chatting loudly ignoring the fact they were at a concert. I changed my place two steps further, but there two guys were roaring behind me. The funniest and a little bit scaring audience-action was, when a piggy-fat stripped-to-the waist drunken beast climbed up the stage and kept us in terror of wanting to jump on top of us. Everyone was stepping aside, just to avoid being hurt by his kilos. Then a roadie came out and simply pushed the guy on his back into the audience. (nobody was hurt) In the meantime, David was playing Single Girl in duet ignoring this tiny interaction. After the show I was just standing rooted into the floor "...I couldn't move". About 10 minutes later David came out and we could speak to him. He promised to come to the next year's Sziget Festival. I can hardly wait to see. By Csilla
